Douglas Aikman: Athletics and Cross Country

 “I have been an athlete for 14 years, starting from entry-level, moving to junior events and now I compete as a senior athlete. I initially started out multi-eventing, developing a range of skills, before focusing on distance running, where I am today. Running has allowed me to become part of a large community of like-minded people, where I have met people from every walk of life, passionate about the sport. I have been able to grow my confidence through working as a team in competitions. It has taught me to keep working hard despite setbacks, and to never give up. I study Urban and Environmental planning and I know LSBU was the right place for me to study. The course has been really engaging with brilliant lecturers. I am enjoying expanding my knowledge of planning with hopes of one day being able to work in the planning sector. The scholarship will allow me to represent LSBU in a sport I love. It will give me a chance to compete in events against other athletes and universities, which without the scholarship I would not have the chance to do.”
