Coach Education: London FA Inclusivity Workshop
11th July 2023, LSBU Active hosted a workshop delivered by the London FA to train our Sports Ambassadors and local members of the community of strategies and initiatives for accessible and inclusive pathways in football.
This was a fantastic opportunity to train our coaches and develop our disability sports offer at LSBU, but to also network with local football programmes in the community and how we can support inclusive football in Southwark.
Sports Ambassador Scheme: Continuing Professional Development
Our Sports Ambassador Scheme has many upsides to benefit your student and professional life. With opportunities to coach the sports you love, earn qualifications from awarding bodies and work in a paid role, our Sports Ambassador Scheme aims to build your professional development and employability.
Our most recent venture has been hosting the London FA to deliver an Accessibility and Inclusion Workshop for coaches to support with our disability football programme we ran in July.
Our Sports Ambassador who took lead coaching LSBU Active’s disability football sessions said “I gained greater insight to the verity and lengths of support available. I was most impressed with the level of experience the people delivering had, you could recognise they knew what they were talking about”
Day10 Project: Sports Coaching Festival
LSBU Active supported Year 8 students from South Bank University Academy in the first Sports Festival as part of the Day 10 project.
LSBU Active has led a six-week programme of activities as part of the Day 10 initiative, and the final project was for the Year 8 South Bank University Academy students, supported by the LSBU Sports Ambassadors, to deliver a Sports Festival to primary school children.
Over the course of the six-week programme, LSBU Sports Ambassadors have delivered sessions on how to coach, sharing key skills and knowledge, and the Year 8 students also engaged in Applied Science, testing sessions and gym introductions.
The sports festival was a great success with 61 children taking part from local primary schools. They learnt new sports games, made new friends, and had the chance to visit the brand-new sports facilities at LSBU Active. The students also got the opportunity to share the knowledge they have developed throughout the project.
For our Sports Ambassadors, this has been a great experience, the project was able to align with their academic studies and add to their portfolio.
