Rising Stars Gymnastics

Our Rising Stars Gymnastics School has reached its conclusion for 2023, but not before welcoming all parents and guardians to attend our awards ceremony and a chance to for the children to show off their unique floor routines. It was an early Christmas celebration where all class members received their university certificate in gymnastics, presented by our British Gymnastics coach, Adamos.

The Rising Starts programme run by LSBU Active offers a basketball and a weekday and weekend gymnastics programme. We’re delighted to see our children’s activity programme grow, as we continue to develop partnerships in the local community to celebrate the benefits of health and wellbeing with local opportunities.

As we enter December and prepare for the Christmas festivities, LSBU Active have launched new after-school programmes for the new year ready for the second term to start. We’ve listened to parents and children to tailor our sessions to meet convenient times and preferred activities to extend after-school care with local schools.

Movember Challenge

LSBU Active have taken on the 60km challenge for Movember today! To raise awareness and funds for men’s health! We cycled, ran and walked in our 30 minute team meeting and achieved 71.46km.

Brand New Afterschool Multisports!

Our afterschool offer at LSBU Active has been put in place to expand the after-school provision until 5.30pm on Mondays. Our DBS qualified coaches carry out a walking-bus from your child’s school to London South Bank University’s campus for an extra hour of sport and activity meaning later pick up times for parents after work directly from LSBU Active (Check if your school has partnered with us for the walking bus).

The opportunities within our facility are endless, with qualified coaches able to lead on a number of sessions in our sports hall, including basketball, badminton, dodgeball and much more!

Children’s Holiday Sports Camp

Every school holiday, LSBU Active provides a wide range of fun and engaging activities for children aged 5-12 years old to stay active when they aren’t in school. Sports Camp takes place at LSBU Active from 8:30am-5pm on weekdays during school holiday (excluding bank holidays). During the October camp children made new friends and tried new activities, with a whole morning dedicated to gymnastics! Which we also offer as an afterschool and weekend activity during term time! Children keep returning each school holiday as they enjoy every part of the holiday club and we can’t wait to welcome new children to the holiday sports camp in February! Children of LSBU staff and students can enjoy a 10% discount and we also offer a 10% sibling discount. LSBU staff take on the Big Half

On Sunday 3^rd September, 6 LSBU staff members completed the Big Half Marathon. All the staff members completed the 13.1 miles with a PB for one, a first race for some and others returning for the experience, but most importantly all the staff enjoyed taking part in such a fantastic event.

“I feel so proud to have completed my 5^th Big Half Marathon and it’s such a fantastic atmosphere with all the other runners, elite athletes and supporters on the day, I would recommend the challenge to anyone” Safia Zerdazi, Senior Sports Development Officer

“We have done the Big Half as a team before which was great because I knew the route and so I enjoyed it even more than before. Running in the sunshine, knowing friends and colleagues were in the crowds with you and meeting after to share our route stories, race times and a massive lunch meant for fantastic times! I beat my last half marathon time and feel extra motivated for my next half marathon in November, where I hope to shave off another 6 minutes!” Helen Parker, Governance and Compliance Manager

“The whole day was pretty surreal and amazing, it’s such a massive event and very well-organised. The run itself was tougher than expected but I am very pleased that I signed up and completed it. It was very inspiring to see people of all ages and backgrounds taking part and enjoying the occasion, I’ve even managed to inspire some of my friends to take part next year too. Tip of the Month: Nutrition

Eating seasonal fruit and vegetables means you’ll be maximising your intake of vitamins and minerals whilst having the smallest carbon footprint. Fruits and vegetables also have a high water content as well as a high amount of fibre to keep your digestive system working as it’s meant to.
